Stauffer Diesel Inc. / Stadco was the feature story in the Money section of LNP on 11/23/2014. The story talks about the growth of our company as a result of the Pod Mod program for the RP500 GenSet locomotives units.

In the article Locomotive generator contract puts Stauffer Diesel on growth track, reporter Kim Marselas and editor, Tim Mekeel explain why we are expanding our facilities and also give an excellent explanation of some of the benefits of the power units we produce for GenSet Locomotives.

In an excerpt from the story, they explain:

Why not use a regular locomotive to move railcars and engines around a rail yard?

They take a long time to turn on. Because of that, operators leave the engines idle when not using them. That consumes valuable fuel and produces polluting emissions, Stauffer Diesel officials explained.

A rail yard locomotive with gensets, however, is quick to turn on, so there’s no need to let it idle. In addition, its newer technology and smaller engine give it much higher fuel efficiency and much lower emissions.
