Announcing the “Pod Mod” Program to Rebuild Diesel Generators
At Stadco, we’re proud to have recently earned a contract to rebuild the gensets in 98 locomotives for a Class 1 railroad. Thanks to our unique in-house design, build and support capabilities, we’re eager to help keep these diesel generators going for many years to come on behalf of our client.
There are three gensets or “pods” in each locomotive. When the spare units are included, it adds up to 300+ gensets that will be processed through 2015. At its height, the program will be modifying six units per week.
The Stadco RP500s are the first gensets that were produced for rail propulsion and they’ve seen heavy use since 2006. The Pod Mod program will extend their service life and apply design upgrades. When finished, the pods will have upgraded control systems, improved materials and other improvements borrowed from newer models like the RP503.
Stadco has a unique ability among diesel generator manufacturers to service and rebuild the gensets that we sell. This means that the same engineers and technicians who designed our gensets are the ones who service and rebuild it. A few important benefits of our design, build and service model include:
- We use exact, proven replacement parts
- We can rebuild even highly-used gensets and make them as good as new
- Thanks to our parent company, Stauffer Diesel, we can repair and rebuild your diesel engine
- Mechanics that know Stadco gensets inside and out
- Extensive repair and rebuilding facilities
- On-site service and repair is available – we’ll come to you
- Supported by a large replacement parts inventory
- We guarantee a price and provide a written warranty
